Planning the Journey
Elise and Anne contacted us in February after hearing about our Gravel Coast journey along the Costa Vicentina, from Setúbal to Lagos, from friends in Belgium who had travelled with us the previous autumn. It was already the second booking that came through their recommendation.

They were looking for their first multi-day bikepacking adventure: moderate daily distances, comfortable accommodation and enough time to enjoy the Atlantic coast without feeling rushed.

June is one of Portugal's transition months. While the weather is often perfect for cycling, the first hot days can already arrive. With that in mind, we designed their route to stay as close to the Atlantic as possible, avoiding long inland sections whenever we could. In the end, they were lucky—the weather along the coast was even cooler than back home in Belgium, where an exceptional heatwave hit that same week.

Getting Everything Ready
To give both riders the best possible fit, we added another Marin Four Corners to our fleet for smaller riders. Before departure, we also upgraded the bike from its standard 650B wheels to faster-rolling 700C wheels — a setup better suited to the firm gravel roads and long coastal stretches of this route.

The journey was planned as six relaxed riding days of around 50–60 km, combining many of our favourite coastal gravel sections with comfortable daily distances. The final stage was intentionally kept shorter so they could catch the afternoon train from Lagos and enjoy one last day exploring Lisbon.
During the trip, Elise and Anne asked if they could finish even earlier and ride at an even more relaxed pace. We prepared an alternative, shorter final route, and they arrived in Lagos without any rush, comfortably catching the 13:25 train north.

They also became the first riders we welcomed to our new office in Setúbal, making this trip a memorable milestone for us as well. As a lovely bonus, they introduced us to a local restaurant that has since become one of our own favourite recommendations.

Customer Review
★★★★★
We rented two gravel bikes from Danil for an 8-day trip, and we couldn't have been happier with the experience. We rode from Setúbal to Lagos, and the bikes from Gravel Travel Portugal performed flawlessly on every type of road and trail we encountered.

The bikes were in excellent condition—well maintained, high quality, and perfectly suited to our adventure. The entire experience was outstanding.

One of the biggest highlights was Daniel's support. He provided us with detailed GPS tracks for every day of the trip, allowing us to follow beautiful, carefully planned routes without having to worry about navigation.
Bike pickup and return were also organised perfectly, making the whole experience smooth and completely stress-free.
From start to finish, the service was professional, friendly, and efficient. We highly recommend Gravel Travel Portugal to anyone looking for an exceptional gravel cycling adventure in Portugal.
