Route overview
Accommodation options selected for your trip

The accommodation options below are selected with a focus on practicality, good overall ratings, convenient locations along the route, and solid quality, rather than hotel size or brand.

It’s also worth noting that along this stretch of the coast, the accommodation landscape is quite specific: there are very few classic mid-sized hotels. Instead, the area is dominated by small family-run hotels or guesthouses with just a handful of rooms, as well as independent rural-style properties, often offering good comfort and value. These types of places are reflected in the selection below.

Each accommodation name includes a direct link to Booking.com, opening availability for the selected dates. You can choose the preferred room category and complete the booking directly with the property.

When making your booking, please make sure to include the following note in the “Special requests” section:
“We will be travelling by bicycle and will require secure storage for two bicycles.”
Adding this note will inform the hotel in advance and help ensure that suitable arrangements for bicycle storage are in place upon arrival.

Day 1 - September 22 - Porto Covo

Your first overnight stay will be in postcard-perfect fishing town known for its iconic blue-and-white houses.
Porto Covo is a small, picturesque village right on the Atlantic coast. Nearby, there are several small coves with beaches that look like they were carved out to provide a sense of intimacy and exclusivity. It is a place where history is etched into the very layout of the streets. While its roots reach back to Carthaginian traders and Roman fish-salting industries on the nearby Ilha do Pessegueiro, the village you see today was largely shaped by the vision of the Marquês de Pombal, that is represented by charming Pombaline architecture of whitewashed houses with blue stripes.
Option 1 - Ocean House Alentejo - booking.com
A warm and welcoming guesthouse in Porto Covo, offering simple yet very comfortable rooms with private bathroom and a relaxed, peaceful atmosphere and great location. Many rooms and the outdoor areas have beautiful open views over the surrounding village and countryside. The place stands out for its excellent breakfast and attentive hosts, making it a particularly pleasant stop to rest and recharge during a coastal cycling journey. It’s a short walk to the beach for a post-ride swim, and you have several good dinner options nearby in the village.

💶 Approx. €150-163 / night (double room)
📍 Location: 5/5
⭐ Rating booking.com: 8.8
✅ Breakfast included.

Option 2 - Porto Covo Praia Hotel & SPA - booking.com
A modern beachfront hotel offering high standards of comfort and direct access to the sand. It features spacious rooms with balconies and excellent recovery facilities, including a spa and two swimming pools. While there is an on-site restaurant, we recommend the short 7–8 minute walk into the village center for a more authentic local dining experience.

💶 Approx. €158-195 / night (double room)
📍 Location: 5/5
⭐ Rating booking.com: 8.9
✅ A delicious breakfast is included.
Option 3 - Zé Inácio - Alojamento e Restaurante - booking.com
This is a small, family-run guesthouse located right in the centre of Porto Covo, with a more authentic local style. It is situated on the second floor above a restaurant run by the same family.
They unfortunately do not offer breakfast, but thanks to the central location, there are several cafés nearby where you can easily have breakfast.

💶 Approx. €100 / night (double room)
📍 Location: 5/5
⭐ Rating booking.com: 8.5
✅ Breakfast is not included.

Day 2 - September 23 - Zambujeira do Mar

Your second day ends in the peaceful village of Zambujeira do Mar, where you can toast with a glass of the region’s finest.
Zambujeira do Mar is a very beautiful coastal village. Despite its popularity, the choice of accommodation is relatively small, and good options are often booked well in advance. The options that are offered below are located outside the village, at varying distances, which does mean less convenient dinner options in the evening. But that is a nice opportunity to explore the home stays and enjoy some tranquility of rural Portugal. That said, all of these options include breakfast.
Option 1 - Alojamento Costa Alentejana - booking.com
A recently renovated guesthouse located in the center of Zambujeira do Mar, just a short walk from the beach, cafés, and local restaurants. Rooms are bright, simple, and comfortable, with a fresh, well-maintained feel throughout the property. Several of my recent clients stayed here and were very pleased with the level of comfort and the overall experience. A breakfast is optional and well rated by guests.

💶 Approx. €151-178 / night (double room)
📍 Location: 5/5
⭐ Rating booking.com: 9.5
✅ Beakfast is included.

Option 2 - Herdade Do Touril - booking.com
This is a beautifully restored rural estate set about 4 km before Zambujeira do Mar. The property offers an elegant, remote and comfortable stay, with whitewashed houses, tiled floors, a large saltwater heated pool, and own restaurant. Breakfast with regional products is highly rated, and the service is attentive and warm. Many of my previous cycling clients have stayed here — and without exception, they were truly delighted with the experience.

💶 Approx. €182-209 / night (double room)
📍 Location: 4.5/5
⭐ Rating booking.com: 9.6
✅ Breakfast included.

Option 3 - Breathe In - booking.com
Breathe In is a welcoming guesthouse situated in a peaceful area of Zambujeira do Mar. The rooms are well-maintained and offer a comfortable, quiet environment away from the main streets. While the property does not serve breakfast, a local bakery is just a short walk away for your morning coffee.

💶 Approx. €90-100 / night (double room)
📍 Location: 4.5/5
⭐ Rating booking.com: 9.0
✅ Breakfast is included.

Day 3 - September 24 - Arrifana
Day three takes you through the historic town of Aljezur, with its Moorish old quarter and hilltop castle ruins.
Arrifana is a spectacular coastal highlight, defined by its iconic shell-shaped beach and dramatic cliffs rather than the village itself. It is not a typical town with a center, but essentially a cluster of houses and restaurants along the cliff edge, offering a laid-back, "end-of-the-world" atmosphere, some called it a "surf hub". For your journey, it serves as a stunning scenic stopover. The main goal here is to arrive, enjoy a fresh seafood dinner with a view, and watch one of the best sunsets in Portugal before resting for the next stage.
Option 1 - Herdade Monte Do Sol - booking.com
Herdade Monte do Sol is a rural estate set in nature near Arrifana, offering accommodation in private villas rather than a traditional hotel format. The setting provides a secluded environment away from the main roads and even a ocean view. For your evening meal, the nearest restaurants are a 20-minute walk away.

💶 Approx. €210 / night (double room)
📍 Location: 4.5/5
⭐ Rating booking.com: 9.6
✅ Breakfast is included.

Option 2 - Utopia - booking.com
A simple and minimalist guesthouse in the village Vale da Telha center (about 3 km from the Arrifana beach). It offers a calm, "no-frills" atmosphere with natural wood interiors, two outdoor pools, and a spacious garden for recovery. For dinner, there are several local restaurants within a 10–15 minute walk. However, a wider selection of restaurants can be found in Arrifana, about a 40–45 minute walk away.

💶 Approx. €109-119 / night (double room)
📍 Location: 4/5
⭐ Rating booking.com: 8.5
✅ Breakfast is included.
Option 3 - Barranco da Fonte - booking.com
Barranco da Fonte is a well-run rural hotel located slightly further along the route, 8 km south of Arrifana. It offers comfortable, functional rooms and a restaurant on site, which makes it a convenient stop on a longer journey. The atmosphere is calm and relaxed, though the property is more family-oriented and less secluded than a country retreat. Staying here also means that the following day’s route will be slightly shorter.

💶 Approx. €136-194/ night (double room or one-bedroom house)
📍 Location: 4/5
⭐ Rating booking.com: 9.0
✅ Breakfast included.

Day 4 - September 25 - Lagos

Lagos is a historic town on the western Algarve coast, where dramatic cliffs meet the Atlantic Ocean and create some of the most iconic landscapes in Portugal. In the Age of Discovery from its harbour, under the patronage of Prince Henry the Navigator, famous expeditions set sail to explore the coast of Africa and seek out new maritime routes.
Its old town, with narrow streets and traditional architecture still reflects a rich maritime history.
For cyclists, Lagos is an ideal starting point to explore the wild beauty of the region, with routes leading along the cliffs, through quiet backroads and towards the rugged coastline of the Costa Vicentina.
The combination of ocean views, varied terrain and peaceful stretches of road makes it a memorable place to ride.
Option 1 - Hotel Dom Manuel I - booking.com
A comfortable and reliable choice tucked away in a quiet part of Lagos. It offers a relaxed atmosphere and is widely considered to serve one of the best breakfasts in town. It strikes a solid balance between comfort and location, avoiding the large resort feel while keeping you within easy walking distance of both the historic center for dinner and the stunning coastline.

💶 Approx. €235-263 / night (double room)
📍 Location: 4.5/5
⭐ Rating booking.com: 9.2
✅ Excellent breakfast included.

Option 2 - Solar de Mos - booking.com
A charming, family-run hotel set among the villas of Porto de Mós, good balance of quality and price. It gas a more traditional and "classic" Portuguese atmosphere than some of the modern boutique options.
The hotel is located about 2 km from the historic center, in a quiet residential neighbourhood on a plateau. While the ride into the historic center is a downhill stroll, the return trip is a constant uphill climb.
Unlike many apartment-style stays, this hotel has a full-service restaurant with a fireplace, serving traditional Algarvean meals like garlic shrimp or lamb.

💶 Approx. €170-225 / night (double room)
📍 Location: 4/5
⭐ Rating booking.com: 8.9
✅ Breakfast is included.
Option 3 - Hotel Marina Rio - booking.com
Located right next to Lagos Marina and within easy walking distance of the historic centre, restaurants, and cafés. This is the most convenient option if you’d like to explore Lagos on foot after finishing the ride.
Best choice if you want to be central, walk everywhere, and enjoy evenings in town

💶 Approx. €161-186 / night (twin room)
📍 Location: 4.8/5
⭐ Rating booking.com: 9.0
✅ Breakfast is included.
