Customer Review
★★★★★
We rented two gravel bikes from Danil for an 8-day trip, and we couldn't have been happier with the experience. We rode from Setúbal to Lagos, and the bikes from Gravel Travel Portugal performed flawlessly on every type of road and trail we encountered.

The bikes were in excellent condition—well maintained, high quality, and perfectly suited to our adventure. The entire experience was outstanding.

One of the biggest highlights was Daniel's support. He provided us with detailed GPS tracks for every day of the trip, allowing us to follow beautiful, carefully planned routes without having to worry about navigation.
Bike pickup and return were also organised perfectly, making the whole experience smooth and completely stress-free.
From start to finish, the service was professional, friendly, and efficient. We highly recommend Gravel Travel Portugal to anyone looking for an exceptional gravel cycling adventure in Portugal.

Planning the Journey
Christian first contacted us in January to plan an 8-day ride from Setúbal to Lagos at the end of May. He chose our Gravel Go format, including gravel bikes, accessories, custom GPS routes, local support and additional rear panniers.

As the departure date approached, Christian and Lorenzo were excited to start their adventure and regularly checked in to see how the route preparation was progressing.

That spring turned out to be one of the wettest in recent years. Heavy rains had damaged many gravel roads, washed away several bridges and led to temporary road closures along parts of the coast. Interestingly, some of those closures actually made cycling even better by removing car traffic, while others meant we had to redesign sections of the route completely. Rather than sending GPS tracks weeks in advance, we deliberately postponed preparing the final routes until just a few days before the trip, allowing us to use the most up-to-date information and create the best possible riding experience.
Along the Way
Christian and Lorenzo travelled with a drone and documented their journey with incredible photos and videos. Throughout the week they kept uploading images to Google, tagging Gravel Travel Portugal, so we could follow their adventure almost in real time as they made their way down the Atlantic coast.
After the trip, they generously shared even more content with us. One of their photographs featuring the FINNA bikes quickly became one of our favourites and was later shared by FINNA on their own social media — a lovely surprise for everyone.
On the second day, one of the bikes suffered a large cut in the rear tyre. Although they managed to continue using a tyre plug, riding the rest of the journey on that tyre would have been far from ideal.
Fortunately, we were delivering bikes to another group in Vila Nova de Milfontes that same day. We brought a complete spare rear wheel with us, met Christian and Lorenzo on the route and replaced it within minutes, allowing them to continue their trip without any further worries.
The final days brought strong Atlantic headwinds around Sagres. We were ready to suggest a shorter alternative if needed, but Christian simply replied that everything was fine. A little later another fantastic photo arrived from Cabo de São Vicente, capturing exactly the kind of spirit and atmosphere that makes this coastline so special.
Why We Recommend This Journey
Seven riding days turned out to be the perfect pace for this journey. Daily distances of around 50 km leave plenty of time to enjoy the coastline rather than simply ride through it. Instead of taking shortcuts, the route includes many of the best gravel sections along the Atlantic, with a particular focus on the spectacular southern part of the Costa Vicentina.

Spending an extra night in Carrapateira makes one of our favourite riding days possible. It allows enough time to explore remote beaches, ride beautiful inland gravel tracks and discover some of the wildest landscapes on Portugal's southwest coast without feeling rushed.

For us, this is one of the best-balanced itineraries on the entire route—a journey that never sacrifices scenery for distance and lets you experience the coastline at its very best.

If you're looking for your first multi-day gravel adventure in Portugal, we'd be happy to design a journey like this around your riding style, preferred pace and travel dates.
